Amazon keeps buying and buying things. And now, for $970 million cash, Amazon acquired Twitch. You heard it right. They Bought Twitch!
It was officially announced in blog.twitch.tv be the CEO of Twitch Emmett Shear. He said that “We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.”
Twitch is a live streaming video platform introduced in June 2011 as a spin-off of fellow streaming platform Justin.tv, the site primarily focuses on video gaming, including playthroughs of video games by users, along with broadcasts of e-sports competitions. Content on the site can either be viewed live, or viewed on an on-demand basis.
Before this acquisition, It was rumored first that Google(too bad for you bro) was also interested in acquiring Twitch and never materialized. And now with this shocking news. I don’t know what Google has to say to this.
Here’s a video of from IGN stating the acquisition of twitch.
Amazon is really investing in this particular field and is now starting to be a major part on the gaming industry. Lets see what’s Amazon next move towards this an I hope Twitch will always be the twitch we always know.
